GAELIC ACCESS OFFICER (Part Time)

Salary: £12,400                  Contract 15 months                        Hours p/w  15

The Isle of Lismore is ten miles long by about one mile wide lying in Loch Linnhe at the southern end of the Great Glen. Because of this, it has played an important part in the prehistory and history of the West Highlands and Islands and has an ancient and unbroken tradition of Gaelic Culture with a remarkable variety of historical monuments.

The centre, which was opened in 2007, is an ecologically friendly, award winning building housing a café and shop as well as an accredited museum. The Gaelic Access Officer would be based within the building. For further information www.lismoregaelicheritagecentre.org.

The successful candidate will be based at the Centre.

Job Specifications

•        Updating the website (English and Gaelic) including marketing and social media posts

•        Drafting and producing signage and promotional material in Gaelic and English.

•        Organising regular Gaelic events at the Centre eg ceilidhs, Gaelic weekends, Gaelic Café

•        Making contact with native Gaelic speakers and school groups on the island and mainland to trace , record, and if possible strengthen,  the island’s traditional Gaelic culture.

•        Liaising with other Educational Institutions eg Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Stirling University

•        Working as an effective member of the support team within the Centre

 

Person Specifications

Essential Skills

Ø  Fluent in both written and spoken Gaelic

Ø  Fluent in both written and spoken English

Ø  Experience of updating Gaelic and English language content on websites and social media

Ø  Experience of designing and sourcing Gaelic language signage and promotional materials

Ø  Experience of organising events and / or training courses

Ø  Experience of working as part of a team

Ø  Experience of collaborative working

 

Desirable skills

Ø  Experience of working with the public

Ø  An interest in Gaelic history and heritage

Ø  Knowledge of Gaelic language development in Scotland

Ø  Current driving licence
