Fàs Gaelic Artist in Residence

Imaginate and Taobh na Pàirce primary school are looking for a Gaelic Artist in Residence to create a new theatre and/or dance work in progress for young audiences.  This post is part-time (14 hours per week for 28 weeks) and fixed term from September 2018 to March 2019.

The post will be based in Imaginate’s office at 30B Grindlay Street,
Edinburgh, EH3 9AX and Bun Sgoil Taobh na Pàirce, 139 Bonnington Rd, Edinburgh EH6 5NQ.

Interviews will take place in central Edinburgh on Friday 27 April 2018.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Gaelic Artist in Residence will create a new theatre and/or dance work in progress for young audiences. They will work alongside Primary 3 pupils at Taobh na Pàirce to research and develop their idea with opportunities for paid research and development time, a small production budget and support through mentoring and a programme of professional development. It is essential that all activity in the school, and the teacher training session, is delivered through Gaelic.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This post will develop depending on the skills and artform interests of the selected artist, however the following tasks are a core part of the project:

  • Undertake high quality research and development culminating in an early stage work in progress for young audiences
  • Share this work in progress with the school community and with sector peers at an Imaginate event
  • Plan and deliver a one-day workshop for artists in Scotland, accessible for Gaelic and non-Gaelic speaking artists
  • Plan and deliver a 90 minute teacher training session for Gaelic speaking teachers
  • Work with the project partners to help to develop the Gaelic language skills and vocabulary of pupils at Taobh na Pàirce
  • Agree a professional development package with Imaginate including seeing work at Edinburgh International Children’s Festival 2018
  • Write a project blog (in Gaelic and English for the Imaginate website)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a track record in creating theatre and/or dance
  • Be a fluent Gaelic speaker
  • Have experience, or an interest, in creating or performing in theatre and/or dance for young audiences

Desirable

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in delivering workshops for a variety of groups
  • Have experience of working in a school
