Job Purpose

To develop, promote & deliver a programme of Gaelic events and learning opportunities in line with the aims of UofG Gàidhlig and the University’s Gaelic Plan, and to provide support for the development and implementation of the University’s planned Gaelic immersion year under the direction of the Gaelic Development Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support the development and delivery of an engaging programme of Gaelic language and cultural events with particular attention to the student community and the development of links between UofG Gàidhlig and key university groups including: the Ossianic Society, SRC (Student Representative Council) and student unions (GUU and QMU).
2. Working with the Gaelic Development Manager, support the promotion of Gaelic events appropriately across the campus and online with emphasis upon digital and social media.
3. Collect feedback and statistical data in relation to events and social media activity:
• feedback on event content
• attendance figures
• numbers engaging with social media platforms and patterns of engagement.
4. Promote Gaelic learning opportunities and online learning resources to staff.
5. Maintain and update the webpages and social media accounts for UofG Gàidhlig
6. Under the direction of the Gaelic Development Manager, provide practical guidance and support to students in the Gaelic Residency Scheme (Taigh na Gàidhlig) on the administrative processes around the delivery and promotion of Gaelic events and campaigns including social media activity.
7. Ability to fulfil tasks through the medium of Gaelic and English, thereby supporting areas where a bilingual policy exists and in turn helping to promote the use of Gaelic amongst staff and students.
8. Provide administrative support for the development and implementation of the planned Gaelic immersion year under the direction of the Gaelic Development Manager and in collaboration with colleagues in Celtic and Gaelic.
9. Attend Gaelic-related events at the University.
10. Attend relevant meetings and events on behalf of UofG Gàidhlig and / or alongside the Gaelic Development Manager.

6. Fo stiùir Manaidsear Leasachaidh na Gàidhlig, cùm taic agus comhairle le oileanaich Taigh na Gàidhlig (Sgeama Còmhnaidh an Oilthighe) a thaobh tachartasan a chur air dòigh agus iomairtean a ruith air na meadhanan sòisealta.
7. Comasach air dleastanasan a choileanadh tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig agus Beurla agus mar sin, a’ cumail taic ri poileasaidhean dà-chànanach agus a’ brosnachadh oileanaich agus luchd-obrach gus Gàidhlig a chleachdadh.
8. Taic rianachd a chumail ri bliadhna bhogaidh ùr mar as iomchaidh agus fo stiùir Manaidsear Leasachaidh na Gàidhlig agus ann an co-bhonn le Roinn na Ceiltis is Gàidhlig.
9. Tachartasan co-cheangailte ri Gàidhlig a fhrithealadh san Oilthigh.
10. Tachartasan agus coinneamhan a fhrithealadh mar as iomchaidh às leth UofG Gàidhlig agus / neo còmhla ri Manaidsear Leasachaidh na Gàidhlig.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role, or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role
A2 A good working knowledge of Scottish Gaelic spelling conventions detailed in the SQA’s ‘Gaelic Orthographic Conventions’

Desirable

B1 A Good first degree in Scottish Gaelic
B2 ECDL or equivalent
